Since January 2018 we have had a Honeywell EvoHome heating system which includes HR92 smart radiator valves. These valves control the water flow to the radiators and sense the room temperature, turning each room into its own heating zone. In two rooms this has been less than satisfactory - one has two radiators (its not clear how the system reconciles this but the net effect is that it is often too cold) and the other has a radiator largely concealed behind a unit. As someone put it online, the HR92 valves are “very good at sensing the temperature next to a hot radiator”. To improve this, I have added two DT92E wireless thermostats in the rooms where we were not happy with the temperature.

The process for binding these is not clear and I found it from a YouTube video.

Rant: I am beginning to really hate having to watch YouTube videos to find information that could be more accessible, such as written on a webpage.

DT92E wireless thermostat

To bind the thermostat to the EvoHome system:

  1. If the on/off symbol is not shown in the bottom right of the display on the thermostat, press the on/off button for 2 seconds and the ‘off set point’ will appear (by default this is 5.0°C).
  2. Press the up and down buttons together until INst appears on screen.
  3. Press the down button until COnt appears on screen.
  4. Press the up button until CLr appears on the screen (should be up 3 times).
  5. Press the on/off button. The screen will display --_ and then CLr will reappear.
  6. Press the up button until COnt is back on the screen.
  7. On the EvoHome system:
    1. Press and hold Settings to get into the setup mode - you will have to press Ok through a warning about changing things.
    2. Press Zone configuration.
    3. Select the zone you want to bind the thermostat to.
    4. Select Temperature sensor.
    5. Select Remote sensor.
    6. A message will appear asking if you want to bind a new sensor, which will forget the existing one. Select the yes option and the screen will tell you it is waiting for the binding signal.
  8. On the thermostat, press the on/off button to send the binding signal - when I did it, Sync appeared on the screen until it had synced then the set temperature for the room appeared.
